Barcelona Youngsters

Barcelona are one of the most powerful teams in the world. There is no doubt. The proof is in the numerous titles that have been conquered, and this season, the club has the ability to win the treble.

But while the goal for Ernesto Valverde and his team is to win LaLiga Santander, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey, club president Josep Maria Bartomeu is looking ahead into the future.

For years, the first team has been full of star players with the maturity and quality levels to always be at their best for the club, but sometimes, it's hard for newcomers to breakthrough. But some players, such as Arthur, Nelson Semedo and Ousmane Dembele are managing to do it.

The transfer policy carried out by the Catalan club has the sports management teams focusing on the future of the club rather than the present. The team scours the market to hunt young players who can eventually replace the veterans rather than signing older players.

Bartomeu only has two more years left in the presidency and by the time he resigns he hopes to have completed a generational change in the Camp Nou dressing room. Some newcomers will takeover the role of beloved veterans, though there are others who cannot be replaced.

Lionel Messi, unreplaceable

There is one player who Barcelona know they cannot look for a successor. There is no other Lionel Messi in the world and the club intends to renew his contract.

Gerard Pique and Matthijs De Ligt

The Catalonian central defender has played 2,880 minutes this year for his club and puts a lot of work into matches but, he is 32 years old. The Ajax man has the potential to be one of the great centre-backs in the next generation, and at 19 years of age, would be a great replacement for Pique.

Thomas Vermaelen and Jean-Clair Todibo

The Belgian is 33 years old and his career at Barcelona has been marked by injuries so his departure will be forthcoming. The other however, is 19 years old and is set to arrive at the Camp Nou this winter after signing a contract until 2023.

Jordi Alba and Ferland Mendy

At the moment, the left-back position has no replacement players to use in the first team and at 29 years old, Alba might be finishing his career soon. Plus, his contract only runs until 2020. The Olympique Lyon player is wanted by other great clubs including PSG and at the age of 24, has great potential for the future.

Sergio Roberto for Emerson or Moussa Wague

The Catalan squad has Nelson Semedo as a replacement but they would like another player to use as a back up if needed. Emerson would be a good addition and so would Wague.

Ivan Rakitic and Sergio Busquets for Frenkie De Jong and Adrien Rabiot

Both current Barcelona players are 30 years old and the Croatian midfielder's future is not clear. If not replaced properly, the core of the team is in danger. Bartomeu rushed to close a deal with the Dutchman to make sure he will represent the Blaugrana. Rabiot, 23, is still being looked at.

Luis Suarez and Luka Jovic

The Uruguayan is 31 years old and naturally, the club should seek a replacement. The 21-year-old Serbian striker is one of those being considered.
