Eight Premier League teams make it into the ranking of the 20 most expensively assembled squads currently playing



If there is one thing that rings true across the entire footballing world, it is that you have to spend money to win trophies.Being able to splash the cash is even more imperative across Europe's top leagues, where last season's champions were some of the richest teams on the planet.



Transfer fees continue to get higher and higher, and it surely won't be long until Neymar is no longer the world's most expensive player.

Signing one player for almost £200million was always going to raise eyebrows, but that only plays a small role in building a strong team.


The truly rich teams can make standout signings like that while also spending a good £30 or £40million on every player they bring to the club.

When you are spending that kind of cash every year the value of your squad increases remarkably fast, but just who has the most expensively assembled squad currently playing?

The CIES Football Observatory have gone through every team in each of Europe's top five leagues to determine just how much has been spent on building their current squad.
