Solskjaer sets new Man Utd record

Manchester United interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has set a new club record in the Premier League as his perfect start to life on the bench continues. The Norwegian has been a breath of fresh air around Old Trafford since taking over from Jose Mourinho in December, revitalising a team that had been short of confidence and consistency. Having starred at United as a player, he received a stunning welcome back to the club in his first match with a 5-1 win over Cardiff. The Red Devils went on to win their next five games since that auspicious debut, a run that includes victory in the FA Cup third round over Reading and which clinched Solskjaer the distinction of overseeing the most successful start ever from a United manager . Now, thanks to Saturday's 2-1 win over Brighton , the former striker also holds that record in the league. With six straight wins in the Premier League he has now overtaken the late Sir Matt Busby, who won his first five First Division matches...

Salah hits landmark and equals Torres record

Mohamed Salah has reached 50 Premier League goals spread across spells at Chelsea and Liverpool, with only three players hitting that landmark in fewer games. The Egyptian forward made his way to another notable landmark during a meeting with Crystal Palace . Having seen Jurgen Klopp’s side head into the interval trailing on home soil, Salah burst them out of the blocks in the second 45 at Anfield. Salah was to be the man to restore Liverpool’s advantage, having been given a considerable helping hand from Julian Speroni. He has now recorded 50 goals in the English top-flight in just 72 appearances. His race to a half-century has also seen him reach that mark in the same number of games as former Reds star Fernando Torres – another out-and-out forward. To further put Salah’s remarkable return into perspective, he has proved quicker to 50 than Manchester City star Sergio Aguero (81 games) and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry (83 games).

Robertson signs new Liverpool contract extension

Liverpool and Andy Robertson have agreed a new five-year contract that will tie the defender to the club until 2024. The contract is considered a just reward for the left-back’s progression, which has seen Robertson become one of the top players in the Premier League in his position over the past 12 months. The Scotland international becomes the latest Liverpool player to commit long-term to Jurgen Klopp’s project at Anfield, following the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Joe Gomez. As is club policy, Robertson’s new contract does not contain a release clause. "As soon as the club came to me, it was a no-brainer for me - I want to stay here, so as soon as they put an offer on the table it was signed as quickly as that,” he told the club's official website. “It was a pretty easy contract for me and I’m sure for the club as well. We both agreed very quickly, that’s why it’s been done so quickly."

Higuain flying in for Chelsea medical

Gonzalo Higuain will travel to London to undergo a medical with Chelsea after Juventus confirm a deal to offload the striker - and it's likely to come today. Chelsea have reached an agreement to sign the former Real Madrid striker - who is currently on loan with AC Milan - on a six-month loan deal. It’s understood the west Londoners will contemplate making the deal a permanent one in the summer depending on how well the 31-year-old performs. Juventus are expected to announce Higuain’s loan move to Stamford Bridge later today, as per reports.

Valverde and Alba will stay at Barça says Bartomeu

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu is convinced head coach Ernesto Valverde will still be in charge at Camp Nou next season. Valverde's future with the Catalan side was thrown into doubt last month when he told Barca's in-house TV channel he did not know for sure if he would be at the club in the 2019-2020 campaign. Both Barcelona and Valverde have an option in his contract to terminate his deal at the end of the season. But Bartomeu is delighted with the job the former Athletic Bilbao coach is doing and does not foresee him departing. Speaking to Sport, Bartomeu said: "We don't have any doubts here that Valverde will be the Barcelona coach next season. "We will speak with him, of course, in time. That's what we agreed. He's a coach we have a lot of confidence in. "He's doing a great job. He's an intelligent person, he knows Barcelona's system of play and he manages the games in a way which we like."

Chelsea agree Higuain loan deal with Juventus

Chelsea have agreed a deal with Juventus to sign Gonzalo Higuain on loan until the end of the season, according to reports in Italy. It is understood the loan could then be extended for another 12 months subject to certain conditions. Higuain has been on loan at AC Milan from Juventus since the start of the season, with an option to buy at the end of the season. Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri is understood to be keen on bringing Higuain to Stamford Bridge, despite concerns from the club's board. According to reports in Italy, Chelsea's chief-executive Marina Granovskaia remains unconvinced Higuain is the answer to the club's striker problems. Higuain came off the bench for the final 20 minutes of AC Milan's 1-0 Super Cup defeat to Juventus in Saudi Arabia.
